It’s been about a year since our trip to Peru to visit the ancient Incan Ruins. Kris and I had been researching trails we wanted to hike someday and in our hunt we stumbled across the famous Inca Trail. What began as emailing each other photos, blog post and trail maps, quickly turned into looking at airfare and trail guides. Thus began our first big trip together and one neither of us will ever forget.
Since then we’ve been focusing on more local and countrywide travel but that doesn’t mean our minds don't drift away to farther places. We decided to put together a little list of some of the top destinations we hope to check off in our passports someday.
Land of Fire and Ice, Iceland
“If you had the opportunity to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?,” Kris recently asked me. This was my immediate response, as was his. There is something very other worldly about Iceland to us. I think mostly because of how unique and beautiful the landscape is - from the waterfalls to the northern lights.
Must See: Gullfloss Falls, Aurora Borealis, Kirkjufell, Hallgrímskirkja
What draw us to Barcelona is definitely the art and architecture. The playfulness and organic nature of Gaudí’s architecture seems so out of this world that to be in the middle of it would be a once in a lifetime experience.
Must See: Segrada Famila, Park Guell, Gothic Quarter
The Motherland, Ecuador
The motherland as Kris so fondly refers to it. Whenever we are making future travel plans, Ecuador always comes up and is often disregarded simply because one of us grew up there. Hopefully we can plan this trip with a good mix of old and new for both of us.
Must See: Quito, Baños Cotopaxi National Park, Cajas National Park
The Highlands, Scotland
Back in 2008, I got my passport for the first time to make a trip to the UK with my mom. We spend much of the time in England and Ireland, and unfortunately just barely brushed the surface of Scotland. We'd like to someday make a trip to Edinburgh and Highlands north of it. The rolling hills, beautiful seaside and storybook castles. What's not to love?
Must See: Isle Skye, Loch Ness, Edinburgh
Pura Vida, Costa Rica
One of the greenest places on earth. Not just with it's lush scenery but from an environmental friendly stance as well. We are looking forward to volcanoes, cloud forests, beautiful ocean views and diverse wildlife. An added bonus, we might be able to spot Kris’s spirit animal - the sloth.
Must See: Sloths, Arenal Volcano, La Paz Waterfall Gardens
Canadian Rockies, Canada
While Canada is home to quite a few places we'd like to visit, British Columbia and Alberta's Canadian Rockies is definitely at the top of the list. Mountains, Glaciers and breathtaking lakes. Also the most wallet friendly trip on our list!
Must See: Banff National Park, Jasper National Park
Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Kris and I have never had a relaxing, beach side vacation. We are drawn to the Yucatan Peninsula not only for it’s beautiful caribbean views but also for it’s surrounding ancient history. We are lucky enough to have explored the Incan Ruins and would love a chance to explore the Mayan Ruins in the future.
Must See: Chichen Itza, Tulum, Cenotes
